The first NFL game of the 2024 season will be played this Thursday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will look to lead his team against the Ravens’ Lamar Jackson in a rematch of last year’s AFC championship game. Kickoff is just days away and the industry operators are doing their part to promote responsible gaming in the NFL. Late last week, BetMGM announced they plan to partner with the American Gaming Association (AGA) to promote Responsible Gaming Education Month in September. This news comes after the NFL announced updates to its internal gambling policy education. That includes mandatory in-person training for players. BetMGM chief compliance officer Rhea Loney said this in a press release.
“We are setting a new standard for safety and awareness in the industry. At BetMGM, we believe that protecting our players and promoting responsible play is essential to the future of sports betting.” – said Loney
What can the AGA do to help promote responsible gaming across the NFL?
During the 2024 NFL season, BetMGM is partnered with nine different stadiums to promote responsible gaming practices. That includes Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri where the Chiefs will host the Ravens on Thursday night. In a press release, BetMGM noted they wanted to make responsible gaming as transparent as possible for their customers. Additionally, they want to focus on MGM Resorts GameSense’s responsible gaming program. It’s BetMGM’s responsibility to promote safe gaming for all customers. Including those who are at a higher risk for problem gambling/ BetMGM announced plans to shoot additional responsible gaming commercials with ambassadors like Connor McDavid of the Chicago Blackhawks.
To help their responsible gaming initiative, MGM Resort announced they are contributing $500,000. This is going to help fund responsible gaming research via the International Center for Responsible Gaming and Kingbridge Research Institute. These studies will focus on underrepresented and underfunded communities that are affected by problem gambling. BetMGM and MGM Resorts are focused on being a leader in responsible gaming. Their partnership with the AGA is going to increase the effectiveness of their problem gambling initiatives. The 2024 NFL season kicks off this Thursday and fans will see BetMGM’s responsible gaming ads all season long.
